Citizens Police Academy


        Thank you for your interest in the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Police Academy (CPA). The purpose of the Academy is to increase understanding between citizens and law enforcement. The Citizens Police Academy will expose you a number of current law enforcement issues. It is not our intention to trail citizens to perform law enforcement duties.

        Should you wish to be considered to attend our CPA, please fill out and submit this application. Members of the CPA will be scheduled on a fist come, first serve basis.


The Citizens Police Academy will contain instruction in several areas of law enforcement, which include:

Sheriff’s duties per the Ohio Revised Code

Sheriff’s budget

Criminal Justice System Overview

Investigations

Patrol duties

Corrections duties & Jail Tour

Communications duties

Sex Offenders Registration Program

Laws of Arrest, Search & Seizure

Domestic Violence

Use of Force

Ride-Along Program (optional)

Firearms Training (optional)


Guidelines:

  1. Incomplete applications not considered.
  2. Age 21 or older.
  3. No criminal record.
  4. Must wear appropriate attire (no shorts, sandals, sweats, t-shirts, etc.).
  5. Must conduct yourself in a professional manner.
  6. No weapons will be carried.
  7. If accepted, you will be notified by mail. Class size is limited.
  8. Priority given to Lawrence County citizens.
  9. Must attend each session.
